  • Over the years, I’ve worked on various projects with VisitScotland, from creating copy for city micro-sites to Scotland-wide touring itineraries. I was approached to write the ‘Indulge in Scotland’ guidebook, a new publication highlighting four-star and five-star Scotland. From supplied area information and personal knowledge, I was able to blend authoritative detail with the feeling of insider tips.

National Museums Scotland

  • Brand copy and Annual Review


    When National Museums Scotland (NMS) adopted a new brand, I was asked to create copy to match. Initially I visited all NMS sites to get a feel for the company before writing for each museum’s leaflet. I regularly help for exhibition titles and email newsletters, as well as editing and proofreading. I’ve also been involved with writing three NMS Annual Reviews, detailing highlights of the previous year’s activities.

    Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa was seeking a fresh voice for its brochures. I pared the amount of copy down and wrote from the client’s experience and perspective, both business and leisure. The aim was to give a real feel for this five-star resort’s many delights, from the Spa to the Equestrian Centre.

    My work with National Museums Scotland (NMS) led to a request to write articles for Explorer, the magazine for NMS supporters. This involves interviewing curators and researching stories on subjects from meteorites to the Millennium Clock. I now write two to three articles per issue which increases my core knowledge for other NMS work.

    I’ve worked with VisitScotland’s Business Tourism Unit for a number of years. I‘ve written for their family of brochures as well as edit their email newsletters. Most recently I was asked to create copy to bring two brochures together – the Conference & Meetings Guide and the Incentive Guide – as well as come up with the name for this new publication.

Edinburgh Reflections

  • Photography And Walking Trail Book


    I worked with photographer David Springford to create the words for his Edinburgh Reflections book, looking at the city from a quirkier perspective. The book is available from various bookshops throughout Edinburgh, as well as online and in every Apex Hotels guest room in the city. I have just finished writing for the follow-up book, Dundee Reflections, now published.
